<br />
<br />
Are you a “Big Cheese”? The Mickey Mouse Penthouse could be your
ultimate Mouse Pad. I recently had a chance to tour it during a Travel Agent Education Program. <br />
<br />
This signature suite is designed for “big cheeses” of all ages and offers spectacular views of the 500-acre resort (including Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park and the Downtown Disney District) through floor-to-ceiling windows. The suite brings to life all the fun that Mickey Mouse represents.<br />
<br />
The swanky penthouse, featuring an interior design with “Mickey’s”
signature colors of black, white, red and yellow, occupies an expansive
1,600 square feet and includes an open living room, dining and kitchen
area, two bedrooms and two and one-half bathrooms. Classic Mickey Mouse
imagery and three-dimensional artwork dominate the design scheme
throughout the penthouse. Photos and sketches from the Disney library
are prominently displayed, featuring images of Walt and Mickey rarely
seen by the public.<br />
<br />
In the living room, guests encounter stylized contemporary décor
featuring eclectic furnishings, Mickey motifs and hardwood floors. A
giant impression of Mickey Mouse fills the ceiling, as glowing lights
enhance the mood of the room. The formal dining area seats eight guests.
A built-in media wall is the focal point of the living room, featuring
three flat screen TVs and a state-of-the-art home theater system worthy
of Mickey’s status as one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.<br />
<br />
The master bedroom is filled with luxury amenities including a
king-size bed, lounge chairs, a 37″ flat panel TV and a DVD player, and
it’s decorated with animation maquettes of Mickey Mouse in many of his
most famous film roles. (Maquettes are three-dimensional models used by
Disney animators to effectively render a character in two dimensions,
and they are highly sought-after collectibles). The master bath
includes a steam shower, Jacuzzi tub and a double vanity with a built-in
TV in the mirror. Unique glass tiles on the shower walls bring the
magic of Mickey Mouse to life as the familiar image of Mickey appears
only when the warm water of the shower hits the tiled wall.<br />
<br />
The second bedroom has a playful feel, featuring a round bed, and it
doubles as a playroom for little ones. The main “conversation piece” in
the room is a cutting-edge animator’s station, a high-tech table that
adds to the Mickey Mouse and animation-inspired storyline. The desk
will help budding artists take sketching to a new level as they draw
their favorite character and watch it come to life through the magic of
Disney technology. The bedroom also features a Mickey Mouse built-in
armoire with a flat panel TV, DVD player and video games. <br />

But we must admit, we thoroughly enjoyed just watching the crowd,
especially the Hottest Deck in Town dancers, while we sipped a
Croquetini (their version of a lemon drop martini) and a Long Island
Iced T Party in the adjacent <a href="http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/06/the-mad-t-party-has-built-an-amazing-house-of-cards/">House of Cards Lounge</a>.</blockquote>

The light-up souvenir cups for non-alcoholic drinks are a blast –
from a 16-ounce Mad Hatter Hat ($7.19) to a 32-ounce Wiggly Yard ($7.59)
and a 32-ounce Mad T Party Sipper ($7.59). And the flavors are as
vibrant as the backdrop, like Hatter’s Mandarin Fury (mandarin orange),
Tweedle Blue (cotton candy), Jabberwocky Juice (Granny Smith apple) and
Cheshire Chiller (desert pear).<br />
<br />
The Mad T Party begins about sunset and continues until the park
closes each evening. Check the park entertainment schedule for the
latest schedule information.</blockquote>

A plaque just to the right of the statue tells the story of Walt Disney’s arrival in Los Angeles in 1923 in his own words:<br />
<blockquote>
It was July 1923. I packed all of my worldly goods – a pair of
trousers, a checkered coat, a lot of drawing materials and the last of
the fairy tale reels we had made – in a kind of frayed cardboard
suitcase. And with that wonderful audacity of youth, I went to
Hollywood, arriving there with just forty dollars. It was a big day the
day I got on that Santa Fe California Limited. I was just free and
happy!<br />

Kathy Mangum, Executive Producer and Vice President, Walt Disney Imagineering shared on the Disney Parks Blog,<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Each ride vehicle on Radiator Springs Racers
is a moving mini-theater that delivers a show to our guests as they
travel through the attraction. And – as with any theatrical experience
– dialogue, music and sound effects play a key role in telling our
story. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
This is where Joe Herrington, Principal Media Designer for Walt
Disney Imagineering, comes in. Joe is the Imagineer we called on to
help us design, record, edit and install a compelling audio track for
our attraction. He started making recordings of car engine sounds and
other sound effects more than a year ago and he has been onsite with us
full-time since early March, riding the attraction over and over as he
sweetens and perfects the audio experience. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Joe has ridden Radiator Springs Racers in rainstorms, the middle of
the night, on weekends – any time he can get access to the attraction to
get it just right. There’s no one more dedicated to his craft, and
we’re lucky to have him. Click on the video and get just a little taste
of what I’m talking about as Joe explains what he’s been up to.</blockquote>

<br />
Erin Glover, Manager, Social Media and Print from the Disney Parks Blog said, <br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Starting June 15, Disney California Adventure
park guests will have the chance to light up the night when Glow with
the Show Ears become available for purchase at select locations
throughout the park.<br />
<br />
For more than 55 years, the classic, black Mickey Mouse ear hat has been a Disney Parks guest favorite. In 2005, those ears got a golden touch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Disneyland
park, and there have been more than 200 different ear hats including
limited-edition and novelty ear hats. Now, using the latest interactive
technology, our newest ear hats will quite literally let you “Glow with
the Show.” Watch as the iridescent ears change to complement and
harmonize with what’s happening around you, allowing you to become a
part of the magic of our nighttime spectaculars, such as “World of Color” and Mad T Party.
But that’s not all – there are lots of surprises in store when you
visit Disney California Adventure park with Glow with the Show Ears, so
I’ll let you discover them for yourself!</blockquote>

<br />
<br />
“Glow with the Show now lets our guests become part of the color of
our magical ‘World of Color’ at the Paradise Bay lagoon,” describes
Steve Davison, Creative Entertainment Vice President of Parades &
Spectaculars. “Throughout the show, the Glow with the Show Ears become a
set of pixels that dance and play along with each sequence in ‘World of
Color’ in a bright and dynamic way. For example, during the show,
guests become part of the ocean with the Little Mermaid, a shining
galaxy of stars for WALL-E and Eve, an extension of the Genie’s magic in
‘Friend Like Me,’ among other interactive explosions of color
throughout the entire show. It truly brings the show’s environment out
of the lagoon and into the audience in an amazing and dazzling new way!”<br />

According to Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment on the Disney Parks Blog:<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
When it’s officially reopened on June 15, Disney California Adventure
park will feature even more Disney than ever before, with our famous
cast of characters making special appearances in delightful new
entertainment offerings.<br />
<br />
Down on Buena Vista Street,
it’s the 1920s and 1930s, and you may run into those young upstarts,
Chip ‘n’ Dale, who are looking pretty snazzy in spiffy period outfits.
Goofy’s got a plaid suit that’s the “cat’s pajamas,” while a new fella
named Mickey Mouse has just arrived in town, hoping to make his dreams
come true just like his pal, Walt Disney. He might even join the Red Car
News Boys for a song and get discovered in the process. </blockquote>

<br />
<br />
<b>We announced yesterday that the Disneyland Resort has raised their ticket prices on daily admission and Annual Passes. Many people had questions via <a href="mailto:Kevin@WishUponAStarTravel.com" target="_blank">e-mail</a> and facebook, and we have tried to combine all the answers into this post.</b><br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. My Annual Pass expires in June, can I still renew? </b></div>
<br />
A. Disneyland confirmed all Annual Passholders whose AP expires in May or June can still renew at the former price.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Can I buy an Annual Pass online before the price increase and when do I have to use it?</b></div>
<br />
A. You can purchase an Annual Pass today online in full and you will print a voucher that is good through December 31, 2012. Your Annual Pass begins its year from the date you first pass through the gates with it. So, if your Annual Pass expires in September, you can purchase a new one online today at the lesser rate, print the voucher, and then after its expiration, get a new AP. It would not be a renewal.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Can I buy Theme Park Tickets online and use them this year?</b></div>
<br />
A. You can buy 1-Day to 6-Day tickets online today and they would be valid through December 31, 2012. If you are planning a visit this year, you can buy them now. The tickets are only valid for 13 days after first use normally.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. What happened to the 6-Day, 1-Park and 6-Day Park Hopper Tickets?</b></div>
<br />
A. The Disneyland Resort has cancelled these ticket options and they will no longer be available. I believe they will still be available in a Passport Plus Ticket which you can purchase from <a href="http://www.wishuponastartravel.com/p/contact-us.html" target="_blank">Wish Upon A Star Trave</a>l. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Can I buy tickets at the Southern California grocery stores and still use them? What if I already did? </b></div>
<br />
A. Check the back of the tickets, they should be valid through December 31, 2012. Disneyland will not charge you the difference. Disneyland will probably re-supply the stores soon with new tickets.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Do they still offer the Premiere Annual Pass which allows entry into Disneyland and Walt Disney World? Did it increase and can I buy it online?</b></div>
<br />
A. They still offer this ticket and it increased by $100 to $849.00. This ticket can be bought at the lesser rate today, but only at Guest Relations or a Ticket Booth at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. It is not available online.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Is this the second price increase this year? </b></div>
<br />
A. Disneyland last raised their prices June 2011.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. What is a Passport Plus Ticket?</b></div>
<br />
A. A Passport Plus Ticket are the tickets sold through the Walt Disney Travel Company and Travel Agents. They still offer Magic Morning admissions plus VIP seating for shows and parades. You can purchase them from <a href="http://www.wishuponastartravel.com/p/contact-us.html" target="_blank">Wish Upon A Star Travel</a>. The tickets ship directly to you prior to your departure. A $13.00 service charge is charged by Disney. These tickets increase in price around the first of the year, but are valid thirteen days from first use and first use must occur on or before December 31, 2012. There are no blockout dates. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Did the Parking Add-On option for Annual Passes increase too?</b></div>
<br />
A. The parking add-on increased by $30 to $129.00.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Is Walt Disney World increasing their Tickets too?</b></div>
<br />
A. Typically, Disneyland and Walt Disney World increase their tickets each year. While they have not announced theirs yet, you can go online and purchase tickets for a future visit this year. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Is the Southern CA City Pass going to raise its price now? </b></div>
<br />
A. The <a href="http://www.disneylandscoop.com/search/label/City%20Pass" target="_blank">Southern CA City Pass</a> prices will remain the same for the year and is not impacted by the price increase. <br />

<div style="color: orange;">
<b>Q. Will the deposit still be $80.00 if you are financing your Annual Pass? Will the monthly payment increase?</b></div>
<br />
A. The deposit due when you finance your Annual Pass is one day admission, which will be $87.00 on Sunday. The monthly payment is the balance divided by the 12 equal payments. If you are currently financing your Annual Pass, your monthly rate will not increase until you renew. <br />

Park-goers paid a small admission fee to get into the park, but admission to most of the rides and attractions required purchase a book of tickets that consisted of several coupons, initially labeled "A" through "C". The coupons were also sold individually. "A" coupons allowed admission to the smaller rides and attractions such as the vehicles on Main Street, whereas "C" coupons were used for the most common attractions like the Peter Pan ride, or the Tea Cups. As more thrilling rides were introduced, such as the Monorail or the Matterhorn bobsled, "D" and then eventually "E" coupons were introduced.</span></span><br />
<br />

From the thrill ride experience at Disneyland, the expression "an E ticket ride" is used to describe any exceptionally thrilling experience.</span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br />
<br />
</span><br />
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Later Disneyland featured a "Keys to the Kingdom" booklet of tickets, which consisted of 10 unvalued coupons sold for a single flat rate. These coupons could be used for any attraction regardless of its regular value. Obviously it would behoove the buyer to use these for the most thrilling attractions or rides.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In 1982, Disney dropped the idea for individual ride tickets to a single admission price with unlimited access to all attractions,</span><span style="font-size: large; font-style: italic;"> "except shooting galleries"</span><span style="font-size: large;">. While this idea was not original to Disney, its business advantages were obvious: in addition to guaranteeing that everyone paid a large sum even if they stayed for only a few hours and rode only a few rides, the park no longer had to print tickets or ticket books, staff ticket booths, or provide staff to collect tickets or monitor attractions for people sneaking on without tickets.</span></div>
